Mavericks Luka Doncic second-fastest to 50 triple-doubles

Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic beat Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson to the 50 triple-double milestone by a game. Doncics 33-point, 12-rebound, 11-assist performance in Fridays 127-99 win over the visiting Denver Nuggets made him the 10th player in NBA history to record 50 career triple-doubles. Doncic accomplished the feat in his 278th career game, one fewer than it took Johnson. Only Oscar Robertson (111) needed fewer games to get 50 triple-doubles. Hes already rewriting the record book, said Mavs coach Jason Kidd, who took 649 games to record 50 triple-doubles in his playing career. Thats pretty cool. ... Oscar is pretty special, so now to be right there behind Oscar being second fastest to 50 just shows you how special he is. It was also the 25th time that Doncic has scored at least 30 points in a triple-double. That ranks fifth in NBA history, according to ESPN Stats & Information research, trailing only Robertson, ...

Dodgers non-tender Cody Bellinger, making him a free agent

Cody Bellinger, a 27-year-old outfielder who was an MVP as recently as 2019, was non-tendered by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, a somewhat expected move that nonetheless encapsulates his precipitous downfall offensively. Bellinger was due to make something in the neighborhood of $18 million in 2023, which would have been his final season before free agency. Instead, hell venture into the free agent market a year early, though the Dodgers and Bellingers agent, Scott Boras, can renegotiate a different contract, perhaps one that covers multiple years at a lower rate. Regardless, a Dodgers team coming off back-to-back 100-plus-win seasons is in sudden need of a center fielder -- and has cleared more than $100 million from its books, with the likes of Trea Turner, Justin Turner, Craig Kimbrel, Tyler Anderson, Andrew Heaney and David Price off the roster. Bellinger continued to provide Gold Glove-caliber defense at that...

Cody Bellinger, a 27-year-old outfielder who was an MVP as recently as 2019, has been non-tendered by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team announced Friday, a somewhat expected move that nonetheless encapsulates his precipitous downfall offensively. Bellinger was due to make something in the neighborhood of $18 million in 2023, which would have been his final season before free agency. Instead, hell venture into the free agent market a year early -- though the Dodgers could always renegotiate a different contract, perhaps one that covers multiple years at a lower rate. Bellinger continued to provide Gold Glove-caliber defense at that position, in addition to plus speed on the bases, but his struggles offensively became too much to stomach at his current rate. Teams faced a Friday deadline to decide whether to tender a 2023 contract to their...

Source: Commanders discipline players for drinking on plane

ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Commanders disciplined a handful of players for violating a league rule about drinking on a team plane, but the league will take no further action, a source confirmed to ESPN on Friday. The NFL sent a memo to every team Friday afternoon from commissioner Roger Goodell, reminding them of the rule and that any violations would result in significant discipline. After the Tennessee Titans win over the Green Bay Packerson Thursday night, Titans offensive coordinator Todd Downing was arrested for DUI early Friday. Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke was among the handful of players shown on video with alcohol following Mondays win at Philadelphia. On the team plane, players mimicked Minnesotas celebration with its quarterback Kirk Cousins by placing chains around Heinickes neck. He was shown holding Busch Light beer. On Tuesday morning, Washington coach Ron Rivera called the...

Saints QB Jameis Winston says not playing hurts my soul

METAIRIE, La. -- New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston said he didnt think he would permanently lose his starting job to Andy Dalton after getting injured early in the season. But the job is Daltons for at least another week after Saints coach Dennis Allen announced Wednesday that he wouldnt be making a switch. Dalton has been the starting quarterback since the Saints game against the Minnesota Vikings in London on Oct. 2. Allen hinted at the beginning of this week that he was considering a quarterback change because of offensive struggles for the past two games, but he ultimately decided against it. Winston said he was under the impression that he would eventually return as the starter after a conversation with Allen in London. Allen said at the time that he was resting Winston to allow his back and foot injuries to heal, but he decided Dalton would be the starter a few weeks later, as long as the offense continued to perform well. I...

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has proven adept at eluding pass-rushers and defensive linemen, but apparently not illness. U.S. tamps down Russias update on Brittney Griner talks

A potentially promising Russian statement about negotiations to bring Brittney Griner home was met with quick dismissal from the U.S. Department of State on Friday. Sergei Ryabkov, the Russian deputy foreign minister, was quoted by Russian media early in the day saying there was new activity in talks that could see convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout, who is currently serving 25 years in a U.S. prison, returned to Russia. We havent found common ground yet, but, undoubtedly, Viktor Bout is among those being discussed and obviously we are hoping for a positive result, Ryabkov reportedly said. The Americans are showing certain activity and we are working on this through appropriate channels. But a State Department spokesperson fired back that Russia still has not seriously engaged in negotiations, no matter what Ryabkov said. We are not going to comment on the specifics of any proposals other than to say that we have made a substantial offer that the Russian Federation...

Steelers Minkah Fitzpatrick set to play after appendectomy

PITTSBURGH -- With no injury designation on the Pittsburgh Steelers final injury report, Pro Bowl safety Minkah Fitzpatrick is set to play against the Cincinnati Bengals a week after undergoing an appendectomy. The worry is when they cut you open, they cut through muscle, obviously to get into your stomach, he said, also telling ESPN that doctors initially told him it could take 10 days to two weeks to recover. So you just want to make sure that thats healed properly before you get out there and go. Fitzpatrick had his appendix removed following Saturdays team walk-through prior to the win against the New Orleans Saints. Less than a day later, he was at Acrisure Stadium to cheer on his teammates. Though he didnt practice Wednesday, Fitzpatrick participated in team conditioning Tuesday and fully practiced Thursday and Friday. Thats the dog in him, man, safety Damontae Kazee said. I always tell Minkah, when I go home, Ill be...

A handful of players who live in the area of Orchard Park, New York, are among those without power. The game remains scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CBS. I want to make sure I can look guys in the eye and most of the guys were able to get on, staff included, coach Sean McDermott said of the teams morning Zoom. But for the most part everyone looked like they were safe and doing well. Sometimes things get a little bit bigger than football and then I think the thing we also have to understand and remember is that theres people out there that are working in this and having to get to...

Kawhi Leonard nets 6 points in 25 minutes of Clippers return

LOS ANGELES -- Saying that the recovery from a torn ACL can be a two-year process, Kawhi Leonard returned to the court and started his first game of the season for the LA Clippers on Thursday. Leonard played 25 minutes, scoring six points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing four assists to help the Clippers pull out an ugly 96-91 win over the Detroit Pistons at Crypto.com Arena. Afterward, Leonard would not go into detail about what kept him out of 12 straight games after he began the season playing in two of the first three games off the bench for the Clippers. Just rehabbing, getting ready, Leonard said of what he was going through since experiencing stiffness in his surgically repaired right knee on Oct. 25. Im not going to explain it because Im not a doctor, and nobody in here is one. So just getting back, ready to get on the floor. Aaron Rodgers takes blame for missed throws as Packers fall to 4-7

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Aaron Rodgers used to thrive in these conditions: cold, snowy and under the lights at Lambeau Field. Its when the Green Bay Packers quarterback has done some of his best work. Instead, Rodgers missed open receivers, took a sack at an inopportune time and rendered last weeks season-saving upset of the Dallas Cowboys practically meaningless Thursday night in a 27-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans at Lambeau Field that dropped the Packers to 4-7. And Rodgers knew it. Ive got to throw the ball better than I did tonight, Rodgers said after going 24-for-39 for 227 yards and two touchdowns. Not a lot of margin for error for us and definitely not against a team that gives you some opportunities. Weve got to have those plays. Among the ones Rodgers meant came in the fourth quarter, a play the Packers had to convert in order to mount any type of comeback. Like on third-and-12 with 9:23 left, when he over-led a wide open ...

Ex-Spurs psychologist agrees to settle suit with team, Primo

A former clinical psychologist for the San Antonio Spurs has agreed to settle a lawsuit filed against the franchise and Joshua Primo, the 2021 lottery pick released by the team last month after he was accused of repeated acts of indecent exposure. The parties have agreed to resolve this matter, attorney Tony Buzbee, who represents Dr. Hillary Cauthen, told ESPN in an email. The entire case is over and we have no further comment. Cauthen filed the lawsuit Oct. 3, alleging that Primo had exposed himself to her nine times during private sessions and that the franchise ignored her repeated reports of the incidents. According to the lawsuit, Cauthen first reported Primos misconduct to Spurs management in January. Her employment with the organization ended when her contract was not renewed in August. Primo, the No. 12 pick in the 2021 draft, was released less than three weeks after the Spurs exercised his third-year team option guaranteeing a $4.3 million salary...

Jets QB Zach Wilson takes swipe at critics ahead of Patriots rematch

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- For the first time in his young career, New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson was subjected to intense criticism following his three-interception game against the New England Patriots on Oct. 30. Preparing for the rematch Sunday, Wilson, perhaps emboldened by a nice rebound performance, took a swipe at his critics. Asked to recall his emotions from the previous New England game, Wilson said Thursday, I thought they were good emotions. I mean, I was frustrated. I still believe that nobody outside of this building knows what theyre talking about. Wilson threw for a career-high 355 yards and two touchdowns in that game, but that was overshadowed by the turnovers that undermined the Jets in their 22-17 loss. The former No. 2 overall pick quieted much of the noise with his best game of the year in the Nov. 6 upset of the Buffalo Bills, but Wilsons coach still seems chafed by the fallout from the New England game. Robert Saleh...

Commanders sued for allegedly cheating fans out of ticket money

ASHBURN, Va. -- The District of Columbias attorney general on Thursday filed a second lawsuit against the Washington Commanders, alleging that the team has cheated its residents out of hundreds of thousands of dollars in unreturned security deposits for season-ticket holders. D.C. Attorney General Karl A. Racine said in a statement that Commanders executives engaged in egregious mismanagement and illegal conduct. The latest lawsuit alleges the team has held onto potential refunds to season-ticket holders whose contracts with the team had expired. It claims the team still holds nearly $200,000 in unreturned security deposits paid by D.C. residents. The suit alleges that the Commanders have engaged in -- and continue to engage in -- misleading business practices when it comes to security deposits, making them tough to receive. It said their acts were in violation of the Districts Consumer Protection Procedures Act. According to a statement from a Commanders...
